When traveling or living in Australia here are your essentials:
Sunglasses or as they say in Australia: Sunnies
You can choose any style that you like. Make sure you like your sunglasses and they give you a little bit of confidence. If you’re not sure about the style, either bring a friend to try some on that you value their opinion or ask someone in the store that looks stylish. Sometimes a stranger will suggest to you a great new style!
I’d suggest that you don’t buy super cheap ones as eye protection from the sun is very important, especially in Australia.
One suggestion is to check out Gidgee-Eyes for Equestrians. They have four main styles to choose from, several color options, but most importantly they have been designed for the equestrian. They are light, fit very well, fit under your helmet, have excellent UV protection, technical material for durability and have been tested and loved by many top competitors in all sorts of weather conditions and terrain.

What’s also nice is they come with a nice hard case, a soft case, and two lenses to interchange depending on light.
I’m digging the Enduro and Liberty Styles that Gidgee Eyes have to offer:
***Even when its a rainy day in Australia, don’t’ be caught without your sunnies. The sun always comes out and you will need them! Don’t’ leave home without them!
Another essential is footwear when you’re not riding: Thongs or Pluggers (Flip flops)
SAVE OPTION: A favorite Australian brand of thongs is Havaianas- They pretty much come in any color or pattern imaginable!
Things to possibly consider- Do you want to add a pop of color with your footwear? Or do you want your footwear to compliment colors you wear?
Decisions Decisions…. They are comfortable but are a regular pair of thongs that will last you, depending on your wear and tear, a year or two.
SPLURGE OPTION: If you are looking for a pair of Equestrian inspired sandals or thongs that will last you a life time and will look great with anything you wear, my suggestion is that you check out the amazing creations of Katharine Page! My heart skips a beat when I think about her shoes!
I just love the equestrian tack inspired stitching found on all her items.
There are endless choices when it comes to non riding light footwear- just make sure you have at least one pair of thongs!
Last but not least, a hat is essential:

They also provide 70SPF sun protection! Make sure you shape the hat a little or it will just look like you bought it- you gotta break them in a little.
Other equestrian choices- almost all equestrian clothing manufacture produces a fun cap to wear- Come colorful choices come from Ariat or Wrangler.
Don’t forget to also pack your sunscreen, have some clothing layers handy for sun protection, to change into after riding, and to add when the sea breeze comes in and cools things down quickly in the afternoon, depending on where you are.
