Demin Breeches vs Jeggins- Winter Essentials

Denim Breeches or Jeggings are essential this Winter!

At Kmart, you can find easy to fit, super cheap, soft stretchy Jeggings for $15.00AUD a pair.
Positives:  You can ride in them, they are super cheap, they come in 4 colours- dark & light demin, black and olive, they are stretchy, soft, and comfortable.  Negatives- They’re cheap- so they don’t last very long and they get snags.  Don’t’ except them to last past this winter, but for that price- pick up a few pairs!
OR
You can Splurge on these amazing stylish denim breeches from ANKY!  They make you look 5kgs lighter, beautifully cut with great fabrics and amazing zipper details!  LOVE THEM and you can see why!
They can easily be worn with tall brown boots or black heels to go out in!

Le Blanc Seing- 1965

One of my favorite equestrian paintings by Rene Magritte in 1965- Le Blanc Seing

You may have not seen this painting, but know Rene Magritte’s work from the raining men- Goncolnda painting or the apple- Son of Man,  or cloud paintings that are more main stream:

Rene Magritte was an internationally acclaimed surrealist artist of all time, yet it was not until his 50s, when he was finally able to reach some form of fame and recognition for his work. Rene Magritte described his paintings saying, “My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, ‘What does that mean?’ It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing, it is unknowable.”

Winter Essentials- Vests

I think I wear a vest more often than any other piece of clothing for the changing temperatures Australia has, especially during the Winter!

I really love the new HV POLO Senga Vest.  It retails for $160.00.  It comes in a beautiful blue or deep raspberry maroon.  The faux fur collar is removable, the cut of the vest is flattering on any body type, it has double zippers, good pockets and a slimming waist.    My Save choice is the Dublin Tara Vest- simple and plain in a classic Navy.  Quilted fabric, button closure, elastic waist- easy choice to save but still have a nice vest.

Australian Essentials

When traveling or living  in Australia here are your essentials:

Sunglasses or as they say in Australia: Sunnies

You can choose any style that you like.  Make sure you like your sunglasses and they give you a little bit of confidence.  If you’re not sure about the style, either bring a friend to try some on that you value their opinion or ask someone in the store that looks stylish.  Sometimes a stranger will suggest to you a great new style!

I’d suggest that you don’t buy super cheap ones as eye protection from the sun is very important, especially in Australia.

One suggestion is to check out Gidgee-Eyes for Equestrians.  They have four main styles to choose from, several color options, but most importantly they have been designed for the equestrian.  They are light, fit very well, fit under your helmet, have excellent UV protection, technical material for durability and have been tested and loved by many top competitors in all sorts of weather conditions and terrain.

Click picture to navigate to Gidgee-Eyes

What’s also nice is they come with a nice hard case, a soft case, and two lenses to interchange depending on light.

I’m digging the Enduro and Liberty Styles that Gidgee Eyes have to offer:

***Even when its a rainy day in Australia, don’t’ be caught without your sunnies.  The sun always comes out and you will need them!  Don’t’ leave home without them!

Another essential is footwear when you’re not riding: Thongs  or Pluggers (Flip flops)

SAVE OPTION: A favorite Australian brand of thongs is Havaianas- They pretty much come in any color or pattern imaginable!

Things to possibly consider- Do you want to add a pop of color with your footwear?  Or do you want your footwear to compliment colors you wear?

Decisions Decisions…. They are comfortable but are a regular pair of thongs that will last you, depending on your wear and tear, a year or two.

SPLURGE OPTION: If you are looking for a pair of Equestrian inspired sandals or thongs that will last you a life time and will look great with anything you wear, my suggestion is that you check out the amazing creations of Katharine Page!   My heart skips a beat when I think about her shoes!

I just love the equestrian tack inspired stitching found on all her items.

There are endless choices when it comes to non riding light footwear- just make sure you have at least one pair of thongs!

Last but not least, a hat is essential:

Your Australian classic hat of choice is an Akubra hat!  Its an Australian icon that has been producing  felt hats for over 130 years!  There are hundreds of styles to choose from, an equestrian classic is the Arena style.

Click picture to be directed to Akubra Hats

They also provide 70SPF sun protection!  Make sure you shape the hat a little or it will just look like you bought it- you gotta break them in a little.

Other equestrian choices- almost all equestrian clothing manufacture produces a fun cap to wear- Come colorful choices come from Ariat or Wrangler.

Don’t forget to also pack your sunscreen, have some clothing layers handy for sun protection, to change into after riding, and to add when the sea breeze comes in and cools things down quickly in the afternoon, depending on where you are.

STAY TUNED: More Australian essentials coming soon!

DIY Christmas- Easy and Meaningful

Two words that you are looking for when shopping for that Equestrianista that has everything are really great to hear around this time of year- Easy & Meaningful

Oh and Quick!!!! Thats a great word too!

Ok- So most of us have a pair of reins that came with a bridle that we love, but the reins just don’t work for your personal riding taste.  I think once you start riding and competing, reins turn into a very personal choice and something that you don’t like, is YUCK!  Or there’s a browband, laying around because it  just didn’t coordinate with your overall look for competition, so you got the really blingy one.  OR someone decided to be an idiot and broke their nice leather halter that you just bought and you have intentions of getting it fixed, but yet it sits in the tack room collecting dust.

Try A Personally made picture frame!!!!

Materials-

Super Glue

A metal straight edge

Shipping Cutting knife- Exacto knife

Spare leather pieces- reins are really easy, a halter works very well, a breastplate, something that has a buckle on it.

And an inexpensive wood frame with good flat surface area- If you’re in Australia, I picked up a 3 pack of great frames at Spotlight(national craft/everything store) for under $20, depending on what size you choose!   They are currently on super sale!

Next:

Play around with the tack that you have and come up with a plan.  Then start to cut and glue!  Take your time, let your creative juice flow, etc….

Yes its that easy and they turn out beautiful. Just don’t glue your fingers together. You probably want to do this before you get your nails done this holiday season as well!

If you have time, print out a photo of the horse or friend and put it in the frame, even if it’s just on regular paper, it’s nice that way….

*** Think about where the frame stand is and place buckles accordingly so that the frame can be used vertically or horizontal***
