Funny observations in Australia from an American

OK confession time- Here is my American, Pony Club brain, making a totally wrong assumption for something that I saw the other day. … Get ready to laugh a bit-

If anyone is familiar with the United States Pony Club & probably Pony Clubs in general around the World, the encouragement to label everything with your last name has been embedded into you.  Am I Right?

Well, the other day I used a wheelbarrow from a stable in Australia.  The person’s wheelbarrow I borrowed, was not named Sherlock, but I just assumed somehow, they acquired the wheelbarrow from someone  named Sherlock! This person who I borrowed the wheelbarrow had worked on the race track and in my American brain, I just figured someone’s stuff got taken or mixed up.

I mean what would you think if you saw this wheelbarrow?  (Australians are excluded from this question.)

WRONG!  Here’s your laugh for the day- no one’s last name is Sherlock who has a black wheelbarrow!  It’s a national company who’s wheelbarrows all look like this!  You can go to the local hardware store, in Australia, and there are at least 1/2 a dozen of them waiting for you to take them home with you!  :)

Have a great day and I hope I was able to make you laugh!

What’s Trending-

Here’s a few tips to keep your eye out for to stay stylish and trendy:

One piece of clothing that I encourage everyone to pick up- is an Off the Shoulder piece.  There are many options in all budgets.  Try something new and different to wear and be stylish at the same time- you never know you might like the look!

Look in your closet, your moms closet, thrift shops, and in stores for any 60′s/ early 70′s items.

Layers for the cooler months are trending-

For your Hair- Lucky for most of us- we are well rehearsed in braiding and a messy braid is very trendy- So do a good tight braid before you ride, and by the time you’re done riding and you’ve changed into a non horsey outfit- you won’t have to do anything with your hair!  It will be windswept, styles by sweat under the helmet, and dried by the sun!

Feeling Dry…Exfoliate made in 2 mins

Around this time of year, wherever you are, your skin might be feeling a bit dry.

Some causes: Sun, Wind, Cold, Artificial & Natural Heat, Stress, not enough water consumption, low humidity, hot showers…The list goes on

I’ve found my skin in the last few weeks dry.  It’s summer here in Australia and between the sun screen, ocean, air, water, dry air, etc… moisturizer doesn’t always cut it- I need a little exfoliation and deep hydration.

Its soooooooooooo easy to make a quick sugar scrub, even minutes before you take a shower or bath. I find myself thinking, why don’t I do this more often???

Give yourself a quick treat for the shower or bath tonight!

 SUGAR SCRUB TONIGHT:

Bowl

1 cup of Sugar(white or brown)

Coconut oil, grape seed oil, olive oil(I prefer the first two)

Scent: Essential oils are great: Lavendar, peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, citrus

OR

Find something in your cupboard or frig or garden: Green Tea, Chamomile, Coffee grinds, cinnamon, ginger, lemon, vanilla extract, banana, strawberry, blueberry, mint, sage, fresh herbs, orange

Place sugar in a small bowl and add enough oil to coat while stirring- add scent- Consider if you want an uplifting scent like Peppermint or Coffee or Citrus or a calming scent like lavender or Chamomile or Tea Tree.

AND THATS IT!  Mix and enjoy- exfoliate your arms and legs, in-between your toes and fingers, shoulders, etc…

Rinse when done and towel dry.  Your skin will feel smooth and moisturized.  Try to do this once a week, change the combination of scents.

My favorite combos:

Chai Tea: I add 1 bag of English tea loose, ginger powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a little vanilla for a uplifting warm morning scrub.

&

Theres nothing like good old beautiful Lavender and sage together to relax at night with.

Don’t waste money on buying a silly nappy bag! Get something special!

I found myself in the baby isle of Target the other day talking a mom to be out of buying a nappy/diaper bag!  I know it really wasn’t my business and I really have no idea why I even opened my mouth, except I feel that you pay WAY too much on an ugly nappy/diaper bag, when all a nappy/diaper bag is, is a bag with pockets and different compartments!

Well equestrian mothers to be- Take my advice:

Buy are super beautiful bag that will last way past nappy/diaper years!

Really what you need is a great bag that has a few compartments and in addition to that- a clutch purse or cross body bag for your own items and  an envelope bag or two for baby goods and other things.

If you’re going to spend money on a diaper bag- you might as well get something that fits your style(cause face it, mid price nappy/diaper bags are UGLY and pretty ones are super $$$).   Find something that will grow with your needs from infant to toddler and beyond!

Large equestrian bags the suit these needs: Check out Oughton Limited, Baker Blankets, Rebecca Ray Designs, Sheplers and Etsy.

A spare change of clothes for baby can be placed in a separate bag and left to live in the car. This can be easily grabbed if you think you might

Put all your essentials in a large bag that you will still have some room for extras, like a small blanket, a book, or other items!
